Josephine Lewis, CFA (College for Appraisers)
Born in England, Josephine Lewis spent the first part of her life as a singer, performing for more than 29 years, all across the world. Her passion was Big Band and Jazz, and she worked many years as a solo cabaret artist. While performing on cruise ships for the P&O Shipping Line, she was able to travel the world, and she visited museums and shops, broadening her knowledge of antiques and collectibles.
After a three-year engagement at the Sheraton Skyline at Heathrow Airport (performing five shows per night, six nights a week), damage to her vocal chords forced her to give up her singing career. She decided to concentrate on antiques, and in 1976, she opened a small shop in London.
Several years later, she fell in love with Ken Lewis, a pilot who worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. They married and moved to the United States, settled in Twin Lakes, Colorado (which is just 38 miles from Aspen) where she opened her first US based shop. They later moved to Breckenridge, Colorado and owned and operated Breckenridge Antiques from 1983 to 1999.
Today, Josephine lives in Denver, Colorado but travels frequently to England to visit family and to buy antiques. She is a qualified appraiser, having earned her certification from the College for Appraisers. She is also qualified to be an expert witness in the court system, and her specialty is American and European silver.
